Training Materials

Our framework for the tutor training is Teaching Adults: An ESL Resource Book. Tutors receive this book before (or at) the training.  Chapters in this book correspond to the content for each day of the training. Tutors also receive The Oxford Picture Dictionary. This is useful for lesson planning and as a resource to teach vocabulary.

Literacy Office Library

Since tutors usually stay with us for several years, the 12-hour training is just the beginning. It’s important to provide tutors with the resources they need as their student grows in English skills. In addition to the tutor workshops listed below, tutors are encouraged to visit the Literacy Office Library where they can check out: resource books on grammar, phonics, and vocabulary; fiction and nonfiction books for students; resources for teaching Life Survival Skills; materials related to vocational training, US Citizenship or GED and more!
