Better Together

UC Santa Cruz is honored to support National Volunteer Month by sponsoring the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County. Life is better when we do it together, in community, as individuals, organizations, and groups. It’s easy to see that UC Santa Cruz and the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz are Better Together.

UC Santa Cruz was founded in 1965, followed by the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center in 1967. It was then that a relationship was formed that has grown over the years. Students, staff, faculty, and UCSC alumni contribute thousands of hours of service to nonprofits, individuals, and organizations throughout Santa Cruz County.

We are committed to continuing this tradition and invite others to join us and be a part of the greater good that comes from helping one another.

UC Santa Cruz thanks alumna Karen Delaney (Rachel Carson, ‘81) for her leadership as the Executive Director of the Volunteer Center, and Christina Thurston, Director of Volunteer Engagement, who leads the Volunteer Mobilization efforts across our county. Additionally, we want to thank the following people and UC Santa Cruz entities who have volunteered to make Santa Cruz County a better place, through internships, individual projects, and Volunteer Center Programs, including the Adopt-a-Family, Transportation and Grocery Shopper Programs:

  • Angela Cline, Colleges, Housing, and Education Services; VC Board Chair
  • UC Santa Cruz Retirees
  • UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball Club
  • UC Santa Cruz Praxis Club
  • Sikh Student Association
  • Interns from the Psychology Department, Community Studies, Women’s Studies, Environmental Studies, and more
