COVID-19 & The 2020 Human Race

While the celebration scheduled for May 9th will not cap off our six-week fundraising campaign this year, we feel undaunted as we know our generous community  is not one to be deterred.

We also know that the most vital piece of the Human Race is the six week online giving campaign. Last year our fundraisers brought in over $250,000 for 90+ organizations and 80% of this was through using our online tools!

Our platform provides the opportunity for virtual solidarity & support and therefore we are full steam ahead with the online portion of the race happening March 25 -May 9.

Organizations have until March 23rd to register.

This public health emergency will have an economic toll on our community and this creates a pressing need to “come together” in support of those entities on the frontlines of community wellness and connection.

As we practice social distancing in the coming month, we know that there are many varied challenges ahead. Our organizations may struggle to gain new volunteers, access donated goods, and maintain the in-person connections that are vital to our community’s well-being. The Human Race as a six-week virtual campaign can play a crucial role in helping to counteract some of these challenges.

Every year more than 100 organizations, schools, and community groups collectively raise funds for their important causes through our online fundraising. This event traditionally comes to a close with one-day celebration along West Cliff Drive where teams join in a 5-mile walk or fun run. Thankfully, this portion, although phenomenally fun, isn’t what brings in the majority of our fundraising dollars- that is YOU. As fundraisers, donors, sponsors, and team leads you champion the causes you care about and inspire others to give generously online.  Drawing on our 40-year history of hosting the Human Race Giving Campaign, we know our community has always been unwavering in their willingness to give. We are confident the Human Race will remain a testament to how we pull together as a community to spread hope and generosity, even in the most challenging of times.

We are committed to preparing for options while keeping our community safe, healthy, and connected. We intend to follow whatever recommendations are provided by our County Health Department as we determine what will happen with race day. In the meantime, we will use our best in the field online tools to virtually walk with you every step of the way as you meet your fundraising goals.

We have moved all of our Human Race training and our brand new Nonprofit Training Series to online webinars. We encourage all of our fellow nonprofits to use this resource to remain professionally agile and connected as we adapt to this public health emergency. We know that this epidemic is taking an emotional and financial toll on local nonprofits and we hope that the Human Race can serve to buoy us up with adaptable tools, financial stimulus, and a sense of connection.

Nonprofits, schools, and community groups can register for the Human Race until March 23rd. Registration is Free
