Take Action on Your Gratitude This Weekend

Our office will be closed until Monday Nov 26th as we take time with our families. For many in our community this weekend represents a time to come together in gratitude for all that we have. As we head into the heart of the holiday season, it is a wonderful time to reflect on what we value most.

If you, your friends, or your family are looking for news ways to create a meaningful holiday we would love to chat with you about opportunities next week. In the meantime, we have a few great options for you if you want to get started this weekend.

While there will be no one at the Adopt a Family Phone line until Monday,  our online Family Request Form is available 24 hours a day for you to request a family. Tell us a bit about the family size and ages you prefer and we will match you up with the right family. This year we are partnering with fellow nonprofits and community members to make the holiday brighter for over 450 families in need and we still have 200 families awaiting adoption.

If taking on a whole family isn’t something you are able to do, we invite you to buy just one item via our Amazon Wishlist or give a donation to support us in meeting the need.

Aside from the Adopt a Family Project there are so many deserving projects and programs in Santa Cruz County that need your financial support. We recommend you hop on over to www.santacruzgives.org where you’re guaranteed to find a cause you care about. Santa Cruz Gives spearheaded by the fabulous folks at Santa Cruz Good Times,  is  your one stop shop for holiday donations with 33 nonprofits to choose from. Give to one or give to many- all with one transaction.

Finally, if you are inspired by the spirit of giving this weekend and value the connections made when folks come together, we invite you to make a commitment to volunteer. Each year, we post an online Holiday Volunteering Guide to make the search for giving back a little easier.

Listed in the guide, are a variety of holiday related opportunities available throughout the county now through New Years..

If you are ready to get started asap, you can drop-in to support Food Not Bombs in providing healthy free food for locals in need this weekend or you can tackle a do it yourself project by crafting holiday cards to be delivered to isolated seniors.

Every action is of value and we promise there is something for everyone, no matter how much time or money you have to give. If you’re struggling to find just the right fit for giving back, please feel free to reach out to us at connect@scvolunteercenter.org and we will help you find the perfect match for your needs and interests.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
