A message from Karen Delaney, Executive Director
Friends and Community,
Right now, the Volunteer Center is facing a $300,000 shortfall due to rising costs and unprecedented government funding cuts. This means we are at risk of losing vital programs that provide a lifeline for seniors, adult learners, justice-involved individuals, and our entire volunteer network.
I do not want to see these services disappear.
And I know you don’t either.
But without urgent action, these programs will be cut.
- Critical Senior Services Slashed – Cuts to volunteer engagement, fall prevention, and home repair mean more older adults will face isolation, unsafe living conditions, and limited access to essentials that empower healthy, independent living.
- Reentry Support for Women is in Jeopardy – Services that help women leaving jail reunite with their children, rebuild stability, and avoid re-incarceration are at risk of elimination.
- Adult Literacy Programs Reduced – Adults learning English and essential life skills will lose access to the tutors and classes that empower them to build a better future.
- YouthServe Shut Down – Local teens will lose the chance to learn about conservation and the value of service, eliminating a powerful spring and summer leadership experience that also keeps kids active and engaged while school is out of session
- Fewer Volunteers = Fewer Services – With reduced recruitment and training, local nonprofits will have fewer volunteers for disaster response, food distribution, and other critical community efforts that thousands of neighbors rely on.
That’s why I’m asking:
Will you send a special gift today to help erase this shortfall?
While government funding supports many of our programs, it’s caring individuals like you who step up when those funds fall short—and right now, they’re falling short. You are part of a generous community of people who believe in the power of community, connection, and volunteerism, and your support is what keeps this work alive.
With your help, we can keep these programs running and ensure that no senior, student, or neighbor is left behind.
I understand if this isn’t the right time for you to give. But if you are able, please know—your gift today will directly protect these programs from being cut.
Please send your best gift by April 30 to help erase this shortfall. You can give securely online at scvolunteercenter.org/donate or return your check in the envelope provided.
Thank you in advance for your unwavering support and for being an essential part of the Volunteer Center family.
With gratitude,
Karen Delaney, Executive Director
Thomas C. Eagle, Board President
