FELTON — More than 50 volunteers from the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County and others from all over California gathered at Felton Covered Bridge County Park Friday to help the neighborhood of Felton Grove shovel its way back to some kind of normalcy after multiple flood events devastated the area during the recent storms.
One of the biggest challenges the Volunteer Center has faced since beginning cleanup efforts after the recent flooding has been an overwhelming influx of volunteers, according to Santa Cruz County Volunteer Center Executive Director Karen Delaney.
“We’ve been ramping up our efforts,” said Delaney. “However, we only have tools and safety equipment for so many volunteers in a day, so I urge those waiting to be patient. There’s going to be projects for the coming weeks. We are also looking for people who have skills and equipment like wood chippers and chainsaws that our volunteers aren’t trained to use.” Keep Reading »
