Joyful Giving- Adopt a Family This Holiday

We’ve made it to November in the age of pandemic life. Around us we see the signs of the holiday season taking hold with the endless supply of holiday baubles arriving on store shelves and despite the challenges of this year many are ready to turn their thoughts to the joy of the holiday season.

Unfortunately, while some are thinking of creative ways for safe, socially distant celebrations, the fall has ushered in an increase in requests for support and services at the Volunteer Center, and we know that many are also managing deep struggle. For those who lost their homes in the CZU fire, were impacted by COVID layoffs, and those facing a variety of economic and social hardships, the holidays bring yet another burden.

As a community we have an opportunity to ease this struggle by finding ways to make the holiday brighter for our neighbors.  While 2020 has upended so many daily norms, together, we can ensure that it will not diminish the spirit of generosity that comes with the holiday.

This year we are ready to help you bring a little joy back in the door through the Adopt a Family Project. No matter our circumstance we all have gifts to give, from our time to our funds, and we want to connect you with a the way that works best for you.

Each year the Volunteer Center partners with 25 fellow non-profits to meet the needs of 400+ families struggling to make ends meet.

Our non-profit partners provide us with a short bio about each family and a list of the items that each family member requests. Adopt a Family Project staff and volunteers then set to work connecting these families with donors like you. Requests include basic necessities like sheets, towels, or shoes along with special gift requests for the children.

Adopt a Family has been successfully maintained with the support of our community for more than 30 years and we are confident your generosity will shine through again. Because the need is so great this year, we’ve increased the number of families we serve to include families impacted by the fires.
