Stars Program
The Volunteer Center Adopt-A-Family Project is gearing up to support over 550 families and an additional 1,000 kids across Santa Cruz County - making sure the most vulnerable families in our community have gifts, groceries, and essential items for the holidays.
We invite your business to make a difference by participating in our Stars Program!
You can support these families by:
- Hosting our "wishing stars" display, where customers pick a star, purchase a gift, and drop it off at your location.
- Donating directly to help us raise $20,000 for grocery gift cards (in $10-$100 increments) for families in need.
- Host a Holiday Toy Drive: Toy Drives are another fun way to support our program. Instead of collecting gifts at a business for several weeks, you can plan an event with your co-workers, friends, neighbors, kids, or other groups and collect toys and gift cards! DOWNLOAD OUR TOY DRIVE TOOLKIT HERE.
- Adopting a Family: You or your business can adopt an entire family this holiday season, providing gifts and groceries that will bring joy to their home for the holidays.

How the Wishing Stars Program Works
Host Stars at Your Business
- We provide posters and stars for display in your business starting November 5th.
- Customers, employees or members pick up stars, purchase gift items, then return gifts to your business by December 11th.
- Our volunteers pick up all gifts between December 9th and 13th.
Wishing Stars are Great for Business!
- Increased Visibility: Your location will be featured as a drop-off site in our county-wide marketing campaign, which reaches over 30,000 community members during November and December.
- Community Engagement: Show your customers that you care about local families in need, enhancing your brand’s image and building customer loyalty.
- Increased Foot Traffic: Hosting a drop-off location can bring new customers into your business, potentially increasing sales during the holiday season.
