YouthSERVE is celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and spreading the joy of reading through volunteer service! Please join us for an exciting opportunity to celebrate literacy and help kids who are struggling to read.
3:45PM- 4:00PM– A visit from the Cat in the Hat
4:00PM -4:20PM – Dr. Seuss Read-Alouds & Festive Snacks – YouthSERVE volunteers will read aloud to kids from Dr. Seuss Books or their favorite books from childhood.
4:30PM- 5:15PM– Tutoring Through Games: Youth Tutor Training -youth volunteers are encouraged to stay for a Volunteer Tutor Training facilitated by experienced elementary educator, Andria Gordon (who will be dressing as the Cat in the Hat)
Once youth have attended the training, they will be ready to volunteer at YouthSERVE’s weekly drop-in youth tutoring projects Monday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM at the Neary Lagoon Homework Club. Parents are encouraged to fill out the YouthSERVE permission form for each youth participant if they haven’t attended a YouthSERVE event previously. Permission forms will also be available at the event. Please join us for the celebration, read aloud and training and step up to spread the love of reading!
* Youth volunteers are encouraged to dress up if they want to and bring their favorite Dr. Seuss book, or favorite book from childhood to read to kids*
