The Retired Senior Volunteer Program connects caring seniors age 55 and older with non-profit agencies that need volunteers. Our senior volunteers provide an invaluable service to local agencies by sharing their lifetime of skills, talents, and knowledge. We work with individuals and non-profit agencies in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.
Whether you are a senior trying to find a new volunteer opportunity that is just right for you or are already engaged in volunteer activities in the community, RSVP is the perfect program to meet your needs.
Important Advocacy- Your Help is Needed
On March 16, the White House released their FY18 budget which calls for the elimination for the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps, and Senior Corps. The budget proposal is just a starting point, a recommendation on how to prioritize federal spending. It is ultimately up to Congress to determine which federal programs are funded and at what levels. We must make sure Congress protects funding for AmeriCorps and Senior Corps.
How the Program Works
RSVP volunteers choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week.
Volunteers receive a pre-service orientation, training from the organization where they will serve, and supplemental insurance while on duty.
Why Register with RSVP?
The greatest reward often cited is the feeling of satisfaction that comes from sharing one's time and talents with others. Additionally, we offer mileage reimbursement, insurance, recognition and opportunities to connect with like minded individuals.
Submit Your Hours
Your time is valuable to our community. In the last year RSVP volunteers have contributed nearly 750,000 hours and over $13,000 million dollars of their time. Tracking these hours helps us articulate the significant contributions that individuals with a lifetime of skills, knowledge, and experience can make.
Support Village Santa Cruz
The Volunteer Center is supporting the efforts of a new start-up organization and we invite you to learn more about their work to support seniors. Their goal is a vibrant, caring community, with neighbors of all ages helping each other, so individuals can stay in their homes and engaged in the community, through all the transitions of aging.
